Congress Plans To Crack Down On Millionaires Receiving Food Stamps

Yes, you read that correctly.  As part of its proposal to extend the Social Security tax break and cut the federal deficit, Congress wants to take a bold new step to save the taxpayers’ money.  They want to target millionaires who are receiving food stamps.

Congress wants to implement a rule that will prohibit anyone with “income or assets with a fair market value of at least $1,000,000” from receiving food stamp payments.  It takes a Congressional order to make this happen?  Seriously?

They can’t think they’re going to be saving serious money with this, do they?  This story from CNN says that according to the Department of Agriculture, the exact number of millionaires that are currently receiving food stamps is exactly………..zero!  That means that Congress is wasting time trying to draft a bill that impacts absolutely nobody.  Kind of makes you proud to be an American, huh?

The story goes on to say that the average monthly food stamp payment is around $133.  Therefore, Congress was looking at about $10,000 in annual savings in a best case scenario with this bill.  That ought to put a real dent in that $10 trillion deficit.

I would think this is sad if it weren’t so damn comical.  Your tax dollars at work, ladies and gentlemen!

No no, Fox News had a whole expose on millionaires receiving food stamps. It was on right after the report where they made up a new section of the constitution to support an assertion (I am not making the last part up sadly)

I would not be surprised to hear that.
